COURSE DESCRIPTION
The grade 8 English course builds upon techniques and skills explored in the grade 7 English course. Students are encouraged to explore issues related to personal identity and community concerns as they interact with increasingly complex texts.

4 – Media Literacy
Students identify a range of purposes for speaking in a variety of situations. Identify a variety of listening comprehension strategies and use them appropriately, demonstrate an understanding of the information and ideas. Identify a range of elements of style including, symbolism, irony, analogy, metaphor, rhetorical devices, and explain how they help communicate meaning and enhance the effectiveness of texts. They will identify and order main ideas and supporting details, confirm spellings and word meanings or word choice. Demonstrate understanding that different media texts reflect different points of view and that some texts reflect multiple points of view.
