COURSE DESCRIPTION
The grade 7 science and technology course expands upon theories and topics from grade 6 science and technology. Students will be challenged with expanding on what they have learned.
1 – Life Systems
2 – Matter and Energy
3 – Structures and Mechanisms
4 – Earth and Space Systems
Students are introduced to the concept of the ecosystem by examining the interactions of living organisms and their natural habitat. Analysis of the natural life of matter and energy in ecosystems and their importance in maintaining balance in an ever-changing environment is a key focus. Students learn about particle theory and the properties of pure substances and homogenous and heterogenous mixtures. Students examine the relationship between structural forms and the forces acting on them. They learn about frame and shell structures and examine how the centre of gravity of a structure affects its stability. Students are introduced to the concept of heat as a form of energy in the Earth’s natural systems and explore different ways heat can be transferred in solids, liquids, and gases.
